TODAY'S PROTESTS: EXCUSING ABSENCES

Many Shabazz students peacefully participated in this morning's student-led protest at East High. Confusing language was sent out by the district, making it seem like students can excuse these absences. In fact, a parent or guardian has to give permission. If you would like to excuse your child's absence for participating in the protest, please contact me: hshafer@madison.k12.wi.us, (608) 204-2441, or (608) 204-2446. You may receive an automated "skip call" tonight, but I can always excuse absences retroactively

NAMI DANE COUNTY: FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP

NAMI Dane County’s Family Support Group provides a safe space where family members of individuals living with a mental illness can share their experiences and develop supportive relationships. These groups encourage empathy, productive discussion and a sense of community. We appreciate you, our Shabazz family partners, and want to provide you with information about community resources that can support you. Due to COVID-19, they are currently hosting online support groups. Sign up HERE.

SCHOOL PICTURE RETAKE DAY: THURSDAY OCTOBER 21

If you missed our first picture day -- or if you'd like a retake -- all students are welcome to have their school photo taken this Thursday morning in the LMC. This is also how you get a school ID!

NO SCHOOL: FRIDAY OCTOBER 22

This coming Friday is a day off for all MMSD students and staff. Three-day weekend!

Let me know if you have any questions, and have a great fall weekend!
