Thursday,January 11 & Friday, January 12 at 9:45 am: Performances for students
This semester our Theater Production students will be performing two plays:
Love Has the Power to Change the World, by current Shabazz student Rosie White. This play takes place in present day Avalon, a small Georgia Town with a population of only 201. The conflict of the play involves Troy, a 17 year old boy who comes out to his parents as gay. Given the small-minded environment of his town and family, Troy is confronted with homophobia. Through the course of the play, the audience sees how Troy's parents navigate the changing relationship with their son and each other. Directed by Rosie White
Moving On, and Other Post-Retirement Pastimes, by Shabazz graduate Hannah Kwiatkowski. This play takes place on a Madison City bus in the present time. Four characters, ranging in age from 67-75 meet on the bus each morning on their way to work or volunteering. From their conversations over the course of several days, the audience sees how life unfolds for Raymond after the loss of his wife. With the help of their friends, Raymond and Joan discover love is possible after loss. Directed by Colleen Kellogg
Tuesday, January 16 - 3:30 - 4:00 pm in the Gallery - All are invited
The Gallery Art Show is an exhibit that culminates the work that our own Shabazz students have done this second quarter. This quarter's mixed media show will feature the work of comic class, animation class, painting class, and art activism.
